- 1913  The Canadian reader will need no explanation of the title "Home Boy," but to the British reader this term will convey little meaning . . . English readers will understand the stigma that would attach to a boy who has been reared in a workhouse, or a charity school. "He is only a workhouse boy" would be the contemptuous estimation of his position and chances in life. Something of the same meaning is attached to the term "home boy" in Canada. It denotes a boy who has been brought up in some charitable "Home," and from whom little that is good is expected.
